Gérondif ou infinitif après les verbes
Explication
Certains verbes en anglais sont suivis du gérondif (-ing), d'autres de l'infinitif (to + verbe), et certains acceptent les deux formes avec des sens différents.
Gérondif (-ing)
Après enjoy, finish, avoid, suggest, keep, etc.
Infinitif (to + verbe)
Après decide, plan, hope, agree, promise, etc.
Verbes + Gérondif (-ing)
enjoy + ing
I enjoy swimming
finish + ing
She finished working
avoid + ing
We avoid driving at night
suggest + ing
He suggested going out
keep + ing
They keep talking
mind + ing
Do you mind waiting?
Verbes + Infinitif (to + verbe)
decide + to
I decided to leave
plan + to
She plans to study
hope + to
We hope to see you
agree + to
He agreed to help
promise + to
They promised to call
want + to
I want to travel
Exemples
I enjoy reading books in my spare time.
→ J'aime lire des livres pendant mon temps libre.
She decided to learn French.
→ Elle a décidé d'apprendre le français.
We finished doing our homework.
→ Nous avons fini de faire nos devoirs.
He plans to travel around the world.
→ Il prévoit de voyager autour du monde.
