Exemples d’utilisation
Turn on the lights, please.
Allume les lumières, s’il te plaît.
Don’t forget to turn off the TV.
N’oublie pas d’éteindre la télé.
She turned on the radio.
Elle a allumé la radio.
Turn off your phone during the meeting.
Éteins ton téléphone pendant la réunion.

Notes d’usage
Séparable ou inséparable ? Séparables : turn on the light / turn it on. Avec un pronom, obligatoirement entre les deux mots : ×turn on it.
Registre : neutre. Interchangeables avec switch on / switch off, un peu plus britannique.
Piège pour les francophones : le calque français est ×open the light / ×close the light. En anglais, on n’ouvre ni ne ferme la lumière ; on l'allume (turn on) ou on l'éteint (turn off).
À ne pas confondre avec : switch on / switch off (équivalents, plutôt UK), put on / put off (moins courants pour appareils), power on / power off (technique).
