Niveau B1

Essayer : TRY TO ou TRY -ING ?

Piège #67 – Effort vs expérimentation

La règle

TRY TO + infinitif

Faire un effort pour (difficulté)

  • I tried to open the door. (J'ai essayé d'ouvrir)
  • Try to understand. (Essaie de comprendre)

→ Action difficile à accomplir

TRY + -ING

Tester, expérimenter (solution)

  • Try eating less sugar. (Essaie de manger moins)
  • Try turning it off. (Essaie d'éteindre)

→ Suggestion, alternative

Astuce : TRY TO = tentative difficile | TRY -ING = "et si tu essayais de..."
